About prorso

prorso publishes decision logs: structured records of a consequential decision, the options that were on the table, the arguments for and against each, the criteria they were weighed on, and the evidence behind them.

News coverage of a decision usually reports what was decided. A log is written to answer why, what else was possible, and what the trade-offs were.

Every log is built in the same structure. The question being decided sits at the top. Each option answers it, and each argument is attached to the option it supports or opposes. Criteria are typed and valued on every option, so the comparison can be read as a table rather than inferred from prose.

Logs that name real organisations or people are published only with at least one primary source and a recorded human review. Statements about what a decision-maker weighed are either cited or written as inference.

When a published log is corrected, the page says so: each correction is listed with its date and what changed. A log that cannot be corrected is withdrawn.

Some logs in the library are illustrative scenarios rather than accounts of a real decision. They are labelled as such on the page, and use roles rather than names for the organisations involved.

The method behind the structure is described in How to work through a decision.
